personality | |
First Impression: Derrick can come across as very rude and unfriendly when you first meet him. In all reality, he gives his friendship to a chosen few, and doesn’t feel the need to go about being particularly friendly to those he doesn’t know. This is totally different, however, in the business world. Those who walk into his tattoo parlor are treated with great friendliness and respect. Positive Traits: Good head for business, creativity, fun-loving Negative Traits: Not the most sympathetic person, doesn’t open up enough, sometimes parties too much Romantic Persona: He could almost be considered to have two completely different personas. If he’s single, he is living it up, having sex with any girl who’ll have him. He’ll pick up girls in bars or at the supermarket. He doesn’t care. But once he’s settled down into a relationship, he’s loyal. If he’s going to call someone his girlfriend, he is going to treat her with extreme respect. Turn Ons: Lesbians, very small women, and girls who can put him in his place Turn Offs: Too much talk about feelings, girls with bad teeth, and larger girls. Social Persona: Derrick has a very weird sense of humor that only his closest friends seem to get. And sometimes, even they are left scratching their heads in confusion. He’s very chill for the most part, but a good manager. He knows how to get work out of his employees, and that is generally through being a good boss, making them feel good about themselves and their work, and giving good criticism along the way. He’s friendly enough, and loves to party and hang out with big groups of people, but he shares his personal life and close friendships with a precious few. Those people, once accepted into his tight inner circle are friends for life, and will almost never lose their place in said circle. The only exceptions are those who lie to him or really screw him over. | Likes: Food, sex, chicks, art, sex, tattoos, exotic pets, exotic dancers, did we mention sex? Dislikes: Being broke Fears: Going back to being broke. Religion: Agnostic Education: High School Graduate Languages: English Favorites Color: Green Food: Hot dogs, any chicken dish. Ice Cream: Cake batter ice cream with TONS of M&Ms mixed in Drink: Sam Adams, Gatorade Smell: The beach Hobby: Art Place: The beach Animal: Iguanas and pythons Music: Rap and hard rock Song: “Painkiller” by Judas Priest Movie: The Hangover TV Show: How I Met Your Mother, Californication Season: Summer Book: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson |

history | |
Born in Pittsburgh to single mother, Donna, Derrick grew up in a home where drug and alcohol abuse were a way of life. He never knew his father. His aunt and uncle had him taken from his mother when he was 10, and raised them as their own son. He was always a rebellious kid, but his aunt and uncle were loving and patient no matter what. He was constantly in trouble at school, disrespectful toward his teachers, failing classes and skipping them left and right. At 17, he was already 2 years behind. He finally graduated high school in 1994 at 19, and started working at a local tattoo shop. It was there that he met Christina “Chris” Marley, a 21 year old artist. The two of them started dating, and were virtually inseparable. Derrick moved out of his aunt and uncle’s house and into a small apartment with Chris. The two of them worked and lived together for a year until she got pregnant. Derrick wanted to keep the baby, but Chris was totally against it. When she committed to give the baby up for adoption, the two of them broke up. Derrick couldn’t take care of the baby alone, so he gave up his parental rights. The family who adopted his daughter named her Olivia, hence the tattoo on his chest. They send him a photo of his daughter every year on her birthday. She’s almost 15 now. Somehow, he’d managed to save up a relatively decent amount of money since he was 17, when he’d originally determined he was going to get the hell out of Pittsburgh. When he’d moved in with Christina, he’d tried to keep saving, hoping he’d eventually have enough to buy them a nice house. But when that all fell through, he took the money and left Pennsylvania, moving to New Orleans. Once in NOLA, he found a small empty building he felt sure he could convert into a tattoo parlor. Pinching pennies and saving every dime that passed through his hands, Derrick was eventually able to get his tattoo shop, Shock Wave, established in New Orleans. When Katrina hit, Shock Wave was seriously damaged, and getting things back to normal was something that Derrick wasn't sure he'd ever be able to do. So he took what he could salvage and made his way to New York City, starting all over again. | |
